I should probably have the girls write this post as it is their memories, their past, and their time together. We left them at the trailhead of Sunrise Point (or it might have been Sunset Point....it started at one and ended at the other) rather reluctantly. I wanted them to come with us and it felt weird to leave them behind. They had a walkie talkie, keys to the car (so access to food and water), a cell phone without reception and a camera. This picture above is one of their first shots of us as we descended and headed out of sight.
They explored the rim trail and spent time enjoying sister time, taking pictures and enjoying the myriad accents surrounding them. Our hike was supposed to take 2-3 hours which we thought lengthy for a 3 mile hike, but it ended up taking just a little over 2....it was all those photo ops! (which the girls seemed to be enjoying too!)
A close up.
Farmer Girl LOVES to take pictures from her unique view on the world.
And, another close up with some wackiness thrown in!
This is my absolute favorite that they took of themselves. They often go through life having people express surprise that they are related, telling them they look nothing alike. They even think so themselves! I think this is the first picture to put that to rest.
Thor's Hammer
The Graduate HAD to get a picture of this for herself and a friend. One of their favorite movies, especially since they saw it together with their dads who have fond memories of the comics growing up.
They traveled along the Rim Trail to the end and began their descent on the 1/2 mile steep switchback. This was their view from the top as they began.
Farmer Girl in her attempt to involve or include herself in the picture.
And, then there was the one where she held it up with only ONE finger!!!
Their view as they headed into the sliprock canyon while waiting on us. I love the light infusing the canyon behind them!
Look at the immensity of the rocks next to The Graduate. Simply amazing and awe inspiring. We eventually met up with them and rallied to the top together. All us us had a memorable time if only we had been together the entire time. Thanks for enjoying the journey with us.
PS I looked up Top Ten Three Mile Hikes and didn't find a list, but I did find a Youtube of a family doing this same hike, in the same direction, on the exact same day, but only two years earlier! Uncanny!
