Noah's Ark Drama

Farmer Girl always wants to teach a class at our co-op. Last quarter, she helped me to teach an art class, but that didn't assuage her desire to teach. She loves children, especially this group of 7 and 8 year olds, and she loves drama. So, her best friend and her, combined those two loves to teach a drama class. For many of the children, this was their first introduction to the art of drama.
Technically, in order to teach, they have to have two adults in the room at all times for liability and accountability reasons. So, once we obtained the two helpers and had registration, they prepared for the class.

Those two wonderful ladies are the adult helpers.
They began the quarter with games and finding out what the kids could do. In the above exercise, they would tell the kids to hand to the next person an item and to do so with much exaggeration. It could be a heavy picture frame or an expensive fragile vase or a feather.

Obviously something unbearably heavy.....

They had great fun playing games. It also allowed the teachers to decide who might be best for each of the parts in the play. As the weeks progressed, they wrote the play "Noah's Ark" based on the Bible story with some additional roles and story lines although they stuck to the Biblical account.
Having written the play and assigned parts, they handed out the script
with information regarding their costume to each student.

Anxiously awaiting their parts.

Not sure which part he wanted so badly that he crossed BOTH fingers!

Is he happy or embarassed to be Ham?

After 10 short weeks (they thought they needed more time!), they performed their final production for us at the year end potluck.

As they sat in the front row, Farmer Girl talked with and encouraged each student.
It was very sweet to watch. She has such a heart for little ones.

The gathering crowd.

Narrating from a LARGE Bible, Em talked about the concept of
large and compared to the size of the Boeing factory, encouraing much audience participation.

Introducing Noah and his wife, always with her plate of cookies.

Their three sons, Shem, Japheth and Ham with their knitting wives.
I loved Ham.
The growing population becoming more and more sinful in their behavior.

The protestors or "tree huggers" protesting the building of the ark.
The bird as it entered the ark.
I missed most of the animals....
Mrs Ham offering one last opportunity for the protestors to come aboard!
The cast AND audience participated in the, led by The Graduate, "making" of rain.
(using clapping, snapping, and rubbing of hands)

The water became higher and higher.

Disembarking from the ark as the rain subsided and calmed.

The Rainbow of colorful cast members signaled the end.

The Standing Ovation of a job well done.

Presentation of gift to the set designer. He hated what they did to his created ark....
Co-writers, directors, and producers reliving and recapping the best moments.

Farmer Girl had a fantastic time doing this with the kids in our co-op. She is all ready talking about next year's show :) She couldn't have done it without Em. Everyone was amazed they had written the play and that two 15 year old girls put it all together. I expect to see more fun and amazing things from these girls as they use their talents and gifts to honor and glorify God.
