"Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever and rich, had lived nearly twenty one years in the world with very little to vex her..........." and so begins the story of Emma as told by Jane Austen. The Scribbler created this silhouette portraying Emma, playing matchmaker with her dolls, as Mr Knightley looks over her shoulder. She used no pattern and no one person in particular. Yes, it came only from her head or mind. God has been gracious to give her such a gift as this as He did her dad, Bob. She has had little formal training, but spends hours sketching in her sketchbook as well as all along her math papers, her language papers, or any notebook within her hands reach. As she will often, she asked me one day, "What should I draw?" I told her to do something suitable for the upcoming production of Emma by the homeschool band. She normally does dragons :) She did this by hand with some guidance from her dad and improved it on the computer using a paint program to adjust it pixel by pixel. Prior to that, the producer and director of the play, both said, "We're using it, it's definitely good quality" and after fixing it up, he merely said, "Wow." She had been reluctant to even show it to anyone. We don't know the extent of its use for the play, whether it will be used in advertisements, flyers or tickets, but we are excited to see her work being put to some use. May she continue to improve and always use her talented gift for God's glory.By the way, the play, "Emma" will be shown this summer in June with eight performances. There are two casts and it is a major fundraiser for the band for their upcoming trip to DC. They are taking this so seriously that they spent the month of January in a linguistics class learning "proper British accents." The Scribbler is portraying "Austen"........she is a narrator, but she also participates in the action somewhat, by opening carriage doors, moving backgammon pieces, handing babies to Emma etc. We are looking forward to the production.
