Finally, last weekend after a busy early December, we went to find our "perfect" tree on our 5 acres. Last year, we were fortunate enough to find a FREE tree at our local county co-op. This year it was free too, but a little less full. Over the years, I have grown more fond of "Charlie Brown trees". We awoke to pouring down rain so busied ourselves with some early morning errands to the post office and Safeway for our Christmas hams. Bob spent the remainder of the morning prepping the hams, cutting them into chunks, cubes and slices, saving the bones for soup and beans. Now we have plenty of ham in our freezer! The rain diminished some so we ventured out into the woods. We found several possibilities although most were too tall, too short, or too one sided. We finally settled for this in the upper northeast corner of our property where these has not been much clearing by us. It was along the property line so easy to access. Farmer Girl missed the actually choosing and cutting because she had returned to the house to check on some cookies in the oven and, unbeknownst to us, had fallen in the mud and stayed in the house humiliated. Silly girl :)

It might not be the perfect tree, but I kind of like it. This picture does not do it justice at all. We had to place it in a bucket with very wet sand and our Christmas Tree skirt is waaaaaay too tiny for it. It makes the living room very cheery, warm and inviting. especially when the woodstove is blazing too. (you might also notice some drapes. Those are not my PERFECT drapes, but they are tolerable for now until I have the time and inclination to look further for more. They make it look more home-y and keep the heat in all the more. They and the rods were the right price too coming from IKEA).
Merry Christmas!
Ellie~
