And We're Off!

In a mere 24 hours or so, we are headed to our nation's capital. Our band, desiring to be ambassadors for Christ in all that we do, is performing there at a festival. We have been preparing for this for over 5 years (they started without us!), honing our skills and raising monies for the endeavor. Our concert bands (2) and both of our award winning jazz bands are performing in a venue that includes quad A bands and chorales. There are over 70 of us traveling and we would covet your prayers for traveling mercies, health and safety. Please pray that we glorify God in our behavior and our performance. It will be a whirlwind time of sightseeing as well. The time spent by our director in smoothing a way for this to happen and preparing and coordinating for us has been simply amazing. We have seen God's hand in every aspect of his efforts and it has been God honoring at all times. We showcased the bands at a concert on Saturday evening and their performance was spot on. The drummer was amazing too LOL :)  She has developed in both her skills and her confidence level. I am so excited to see them perform at a national level. Our director has a heart for these kids that is unsurpassed and his ability to bring out their best shows in their performances. We are hoping to show the community of non-believers, both Christians and those against homeschooling, that excelling in the arts is possible in this environment.

It will be almost exactly 4 years to the week, that the girls and I went there on a whim while visiting my mom during the celebration of her 80th birthday. We had a whirlwind weekend as the guests of my long ago Air Force roommate and her family. They were wonderful and gracious hostesses. Below are some photos of that time. We hope to visit some of the same places and people again (I get to see my mom, sister and niece!) It will be interesting to compare photos and see how the girls have grown and I have aged. Do you recognize any of these places? See if you can name them. The answers will be at the bottom. In the days and weeks to come, I will be posting about our travels and our times, so please keep reading. Thanks for your prayers.

1. Arlington National Cemetery overlooking DC outside of General Lee's home
2. Cherry tree blossoms (we are hoping to see these again and praying it is warm!)

4. Vietnam Memorial
5. Hall of Statues in the US Capitol
6. Library of Congress (an amazing place!)
