Lovely Lake Days

Each and every week during the summer we like to plan to head to the lake beach. Rain or shine. This summer it has been mostly rain! We started in June and the weather was so cold that we sat in our cars and chatted to each other with the windows down. I imagine most thought us a bit crazy! We were just that desperate to be at the lake. Some of our children ventured into the water for small bits of time. We have been known to go to the lake and build a fire for warming up by in between lake swims in cold water. However, we have had our share of lovely lake days too this summer. Our most recent and what is shaping up to be our last lake day was most memorable. Maybe everyone else realized it might be our last Hurrah at the lake too. I have always been reluctant to give in to the obvious. It's just that usually we go to the lake well into September and with our late start this year for summer, I expected to do so this year. However, the last week has been busy with many other things and there doesn't seem to be time although the weather has been very cooperative. But, I digress.
Most recently on our last lake day, we had extraordinarily warm weather and a large group of friends, an amazingly large and unexpected group. A friend who had recently moved away was in town for the day and everyone wanted to come and see her. We probably had over 50 there that we knew and we almost had the lake to ourselves! We arrived around noon, anticipating staying until well after dinner. We came prepared with hot dogs and marshmallows for roasting. Most of my photos below were taken after a large number of people had left, probably over half of them. Keep that in mind when you see the large group. Enjoy our lovely lake day, the last one sadly.

Enjoying blanket time....Ok, some of them look cold, but they were in the shade! They played games and laughed all day.

Our kayak is always a favorite toy. Here an uncle shares with his niece.

A nephew and brother coming to join them.

Where did she go?

Three silly girls and friends. Not wet yet!

Two of a kind. They share the same name and are great buddies.

The remains of dinner

Blowing up the water!

Friends strolling and visiting.

W ho was left at the end of the day.

She REALLY didn't want to get wet in that outfit. She had all ready changed out of her suit and
was dressed for going home.

The Lady of Shallot (remember Anne of Green Gables?????) Where is her Gilbert?

Perhaps that is him surfing the day away. Wait, that is our kayak and not a surfboard? Works for both!

Lovely silhouettes. This is the about the time that I actually took a turn about the lake in the kayak.

A slightly different version of the amazing sunset. A perfect ending to a perfect day.
