Immediately on our arrival, Farmer Girl spotted these geese and their goslings. Aren't they cute? You can see the slightly yellow goslings nestled in the grass.
The girls then found a barnacle that was still actually opening and closing its shell. It's not normal to be able to see them feeding because once the water is gone, they close up strong as a trap until the tide starts coming in again. The Scribbler picked this one up and it kept opening and closing itself, looking for food. It was hard to catch it in its open position though and it refused to pose for me!

Look at this amazingly colorful tidepool, full of God's creatures. Some so minute you can't even see them, but all of them so unique. Right in the center is a beautiful urchin, bright pink and prickly. The Scribbler picked this one up (they won't hurt you) and it was fascinating to watch how it reacted to our touching it or approaching it with our fingers. Then she just held it and we watched as it moved it's spines. Normally it would catch its food and then use the spines to move the food towards it's mouth underneath (you can't see it). We also spotted orange sea cucumbers which are difficult to find unless the tide is really low as it was today, around a negative 2 or so.
That might be one in the lower right hand corner where the spot of orange is. I just love the many colors, especially the purples and pinks.
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch of fresh strawberries, Bing cherries, cheese, crackers, hummus, carrots, ham, salsa, and apples. YUM. Afterwards, The Scribbler enjoyed drawing in the sand while we lounged. She drew a dragon and then just a dragon's head that appeared to be eating her relaxing mom! Before this, both Farmer Girl and The Scribbler drew many pictures illustrating Jesus' life and wrote Jesus Loves U in the sand too. The Scribbler also enjoyed writing "DO HARD THINGS" in the sand. A good motto for all of us :) All in all, a lovely day to play!

It's tough and slow going when the tide is out as it is wet and slippery from all the seaweed and if you fall, you are bound to cut yourself on barnacles or mussels attached to the rocks. It's also a bit scary if you get way out on the point and realize the tide is coming back in a little faster than you thought it would. That didn't happen today.....but we have been splashed before with incoming waves!
Great dragon! Did you get pictures of Jesus too?? What a fun day!
