Lessons and Carols
Our homeschool band performed their annual Lessons and Carols last weekend as a fundraiser for their upcoming Washington, DC trip in 2011. Lessons and Carols originated as a celebration of the Christmas season in 1918 at King's College Chapel, Cambridge, and is still celebrated there every December 24th, and broadcast world wide by the BBC. The celebration begins with a Bidding Prayer followed by a recitation of the Lord's Prayer. Then there are a series of nine readings of the Christmas story interspersed with 7 choral pieces and 5 songs performed by the band. Hark the Herald Angels Sing, with the audience joining in, completed this beautiful performance. It was a wonderfully inspiring way to begin the Christmas season and remind us of the reason for the season. May the above videos bless you as the concert blessed those who attended. (the first is The Scribbler in percussion performing in "Away in a Manager", but I missed the best part....the second is a lovely solo by The Scribbler's friend in a song called "Gabriel's Message", Mary being the most, higly favored lady, and the third is a song of rejoicing called, "Issay, Issay." In the last one, you should be able to pick out Farmer Girl to the left of the choir director-the girl with the glasses-and The Scribbler is hid behind the girl with the dark and blond hair....).
Merry Christmas, Ellie~
